SEA iPad Apps 

A selection of paid apps focusing on communication, early literacy, academic skills and ABA supports were purchased for the SEA iPads (SEA iPad Bundles and SEA 1:1 iPads). These apps were reviewed and approved by the TDSB Cyber Risk and privacy teams.

Big Bang Pictures and Big Bang Patterns are cause and effect apps that have been developed for students with visual impairments. The activities consist of high contrast, brightly coloured animations with sounds or music to engage students. These apps can be accessed by touchscreen or one or two switches.

The Boardmaker 7 Student Center is one of 3 components of the NEW Boardmaker 7. This is where students play or complete individualized Boardmaker activities. Boardmaker 7 Student Center is available as an app for iPads.

Calm Counter is a visual and audio tool designed to support students with calming down when they are angry or anxious. The app includes a story about anger, and audio/visual tools for calming down (calming countdown with different colours).

Choiceworks allows educators to create interactive, multi-media visual schedules, first-then boards and visuals to support students with waiting and feelings. 

GoTalk NOW is a flexible, multimedia augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool that educators can use to create choice boards, vocabulary buttons that speak and interactive visual scenes which can incorporate pictures and videos. GoTalk Now turns an iPad into a ‘speech generating device’ for students who are non-verbal or have difficulty producing clear speech.

Keedogo is a simplified iPad keyboard designed for students who  are learning to read, write and type. The keyboard provides a simplified layout with just the essential keys so early writers can focus on developing their skills rather than being distracted by symbols and functions they don’t yet need. Different layouts, themes and options are available. 

Peeping Musicians is a cause-effect targeting game that can help build visual, motor, and cognitive skills.  Students must wait for musicians to 'peep' from the edge of the screen.  The app requires students to find and touch the peeping musicians to cause them to play music in the center of the screen.

Letter School is an interactive handwriting app that includes learning about uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers. Students are engaged by animations as they trace each letter with decreasing levels of prompting.

Make interactive, multi-media books, communication passports, projects, social scripts and other emergent literacy activities.  Support students to learn independent life/adaptive skills, read books with support, write books with visual and writing support, access personalized stories.

TD Snap (formerly Snap Core First) is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tool that includes picture communication symbols (PCS). TD Snap turns an iPad into a ‘speech generating device’ for students who are non-verbal or have difficulty producing clear speech.
