Code of Respect & Behaviour
At Newtonbrook Secondary School, we agree to show
RESPECT FOR OURSELVES by
attending class every day and on time
approaching our school responsibilities in a manner which exemplifies our best efforts (coming prepared to work and learn)
attending school free of the influence of alcohol or drugs
refusing to bring weapons or banned substances into the school
using my time wisely during instructional time
taking steps to ensure a healthy lifestyle
RESPECT FOR OUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT by
understanding it is a violation:
a) to plagiarize (using another person’s writings as one’s own);
b) to cheat on examinations or tests;
c) to submit work for which credit has been previously obtained in another course;
d) to forge, alter or falsify any academic record, parental note or medical note;
e) to produce a paper, lab report or other assignment for another student
f) to take an exam for another student
accepting the consequences for academic misconduct which may include assignment of other work; assignment of a low grade (including zero): failure in a course; removal from a course and/or suspension from school
using the Internet responsibly and following the TDSB On-Line Code of Conduct
RESPECT FOR OTHERS by
respecting the rights of others to learn, to be heard and to be appreciated both within and beyond the classroom
listening when others are speaking
accepting as worthy of respect all persons regardless of their race, family background, gender, sexual preference or orientation, colour, religion, national origin, age, and mental or physical ability
reporting any incidents of an abusive, harassing or bullying nature
keeping the halls , entrances, library and cafeteria clean and clear at all times and quiet while classes are in session
refraining from the use of language or gestures which are profane, abusive, or inappropriate in a school setting
welcoming and supporting all members of the Newtonbrook school community
contributing to the learning process by turning off and not using cellular phones, pagers, laser pointers etc. in the school building and during school functions
RESPECT FOR OUR SCHOOL by
reporting any trespassers to a staff member
showing care for the condition of all school property and equipment
keeping our school clean by NOT consuming food and drinks in the classroom
keeping the school building clean and free of graffiti
not smoking (this includes e-cigarettes), spitting, or littering on school property or on our neighbours’ property
acting in a manner which honours the traditions and reputation of the school
identifying oneself when asked and by complying with requests made by staff
supporting the participation of others in school activities
participating in school activities
RESPECT FOR OUR COUNTRY by
respectfully observing the Land Acknowledgement and playing of the national anthem
exhibiting good citizenship through obedience to the laws of city, province, and country
RESPECT FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT by
reducing, reusing, and recycling our waste products
being aware of environmental concerns
actively supporting activities which further environmental concerns
