This course examines Aboriginal cultures in Canada through an exploration of art forms –painting, sculpture created by Aboriginal artists. Students will learn to identify Aboriginal art forms and describe relationships between the art forms and Aboriginal traditions, philosophy, and culture. Students will also create their own art forms to express their understanding of Aboriginal identity, relationships, and sovereignty.” Teachers collaborate and facilitate guest speaker presentations and city excursions throughout the course. Students collaborate and participate in art exhibits and pop-up events. Throughout the course, students will gain insight into the NAC curriculum and learn creative & artistic techniques from a variety of professional Indigenous artists within the community. We are very excited about our growing mentorship programming and it varies year to year.
