WHO is running it? - TALC Magazine is run through the Library Learning Commons at CALC. The Editor-in-Chief is Sabeeka Rajpar, Teacher-Librarian at CALC, and the Copy Editor is Chris Kubsch, English teacher at CALC. The magazine is also supported by a dedicated group of student volunteers who contribute their time, ideas, and creativity.
WHAT is it really about?- TALC Magazine celebrates student achievement and classroom work while also serving as a platform to highlight school-wide events, initiatives, and campaigns. The magazine showcases projects, promotes library initiatives, and—most importantly—gives students the opportunity to share their voices, experiences, and stories. It will also showcase the TALC SPEAKS COMPETITION where adult students from all 5 sites will come together for a speech competition. The winners will be featured on both issues of the magazine.
WHERE does it happen? - The TALC Magazine production takes place in the Library, where we will hold copies of the latest issue of the magazine. Your teacher will be collaborating with the Magazine on an on-going basis, expect to have the teacher librarians visit your classes and for you to visit the library. ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF who contribute to the magazine, will receive their OWN COPY!
WHEN will it happen? - TALC Magazine has 2 publications per year, combining Q1 and Q2 (Issue 1) and Q3 and Q4 (Issue 2).
WHYis it happening?- TALC Magazine is an important opportunity for our students to share their stories with others. With their unique lived experiences, the magazine is an opportunity for the students to speak their truth and use the platform to reach others. The magazine is also an opportunity for teachers to see what other schools are doing within their schools. We hope that it will encourage staff to reach out to other teachers for in-class collaborations and to share teaching resources as well.
HOW will it happen? - During the TALC SPEAKS COMPETITION, we will ask winners to share their speeches with us and take a photograph for the magazine. If your school is interested in featuring an advertisement (media/art projects) or class work in the magazine, please contact sabeeka.rajpar@tdsb.on.ca for next steps.
