“When I started my virtual four-month co-op placement at Kwantum Advisory as a Grade 11 student, I only had classroom knowledge of accounting. By the end of the term, I had earned my QuickBooks certification, built automated Excel models, and worked directly on real client files. But what stood out the most was how much I grew in my communication skills, confidence, and overall professionalism.
The mentorship at Kwantum was incredible. They gave me a strong foundation right from the start with a detailed QuickBooks training program and trusted me with meaningful work early on. I learned how to navigate financial data in different industries, especially tech, realizing how important context is when categorizing transactions—something I never truly understood in class.
I also had the chance to develop real technical skills. Using Excel, I went beyond data entry, learning how to build automated time tracking models and update client cash flow models, improving both speed and accuracy. Every new challenge helped me become more detail-oriented and solution-focused.
Even though the placement was remote, I always felt supported. I started each day by checking emails and Slack messages, setting priorities, and working independently. When I hit a roadblock, I learned how to clearly communicate the issue and ask for help. That process taught me how to manage remote work effectively, take initiative, and grow from feedback.
