Student Checklist (Business Connect Co-op) — Fall 2025
BEFORE APPLYING
1) Eligibility & Prep
☐ I meet program-wide expectations (attendance, professionalism, confidentiality, tech readiness).
☐ I meet company-level prerequisites for each company I’ll apply to (e.g., Grade 11 Accounting; two business courses).
☐ I’ve reviewed the Student Behavior Agreement for the position I’m considering.
☐ I know the application deadline for each company (some vary). Semester 2 common deadline (if applicable): Fri, Nov 21, 2025 — 4:00 p.m.
☐ I’ve noted info session dates/times (e.g., Wed Oct 15 & Wed Nov 5 — lunch).
2) Shortlist
☐ I read each company overview and available positions.
☐ I checked location and time (AM/PM; in-person/virtual/hybrid).
☐ I attended (or watched) the relevant info session (optional but recommended).
3) Application Package (per company)
☐ Resume (Google Doc/PDF) updated and tailored to the position.
☐ Cover letter tailored to the company/role (if requested).
☐ I checked with my co-op teacher that ELIS is completed (applications without ELIS may not be considered).
4) Before Submission (With Examples)
☐ I confirmed the role & company names match the posting (e.g., “Accounting Assistant (Business
Analyst) — Kwantum Advisory”).
☐ My resume is 1 page and my cover letter is ≤ 300 words (e.g., ~230 words focused on 2–3 requested
skills).
☐ I included at least 3 bullets with numbers to show impact (e.g., “Reconciled 35 timesheets…”,
“100-attendee event…”, “Reduced follow-ups 25%.”).
☐ My resume shows the required prerequisites (e.g., “Grade 11 Accounting (92%); Personal Finance
(88%).”).
☐ My availability is clearly stated (e.g., “Available PM only, Semester 2.”).
☐ Files are saved as PDFs with clear names (e.g., Ava_Chen_Resume_TDSB.pdf; Ava_Chen_CoverLetter_KPMG.pdf).
☐ I proofread out loud and asked a teacher/friend for a quick skim.
5) Submit (per company)
☐ I completed the company’s application form (TDSB email, accurate contact info).
☐ I confirmed file uploads worked (resume/cover letter).
☐ I received or saved a submission confirmation (screenshot or email).
INTERVIEW STAGE
6) Interview Prep
☐ I blocked the interview weeks in my calendar (week of Nov 24 & week of Dec 1, 2025).
☐ I prepared STAR stories (Situation, Task, Action, Result) from school/work examples.
☐ I drafted questions to ask the interviewer.
☐ I planned logistics (if in-person: route, travel time; if virtual: camera/mic test, quiet space).
7) After Interviews
☐ I sent a thank-you email within 24 hours.
☐ I uploaded or sent any follow-up documents requested.
☐ I informed my co-op teacher of outcomes/next steps.
AFTER SELECTION
8) Onboarding & Forms (once matched)
☐ I signed the Behavior Expectations Agreement.
☐ I completed required TDSB forms (workplace education agreement, medical/emergency, field trip, etc.).
☐ I copied the Timesheet and Weekly Reflection Journal templates to my Drive.
☐ I confirmed start date, schedule (AM/PM), and supervisor contact.
9) Week 1 Essentials
☐ I completed site/IT onboarding and any safety orientation.
☐ I reviewed the communication cadence (how/when to check in).
☐ I clarified initial tasks/goals with my supervisor.
10) Weekly Habits (every week)
☐ I maintained my Timesheet (accurate hours) and Weekly Reflection.
☐ I kept a learning log (skills, tools, wins, challenges).
☐ I followed confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
11) Set Up for Success (Virtual & On-Site)
Virtual
☐ Quiet workspace; reliable internet; camera/mic ready.
☐ Calendar blocked; join meetings 2–3 minutes early.
☐ Professional written communication (email/IM).
In-person
☐ Planned commute and arrival time (5–10 minutes early).
☐ Appropriate dress per company norms.
☐ Follow on-site safety and building protocols.
12) Wrap-Up (last 1–2 weeks)
☐ I completed any final deliverables (reports, presentation, portfolio).
☐ I reviewed final evaluation procedures with my teacher/supervisor.
☐ I asked about a reference and how to list the co-op on my resume/LinkedIn.
☐ I returned any equipment/IDs and saved approved samples for my portfolio.
