“During my co-op term at Ainsworth, I learned a lot about financial reporting as a whole and the different financial systems that Ainsworth uses. Each week at my placement, I tackled different financial tasks including updating our company’s profit and loss statements, tracking our daily service orders, and conducting actual to budget variance analysis each month. Through these tasks, I strengthened my Excel skills and applied the accounting concepts I learned in class, such as revenue tracking and profit analysis, in a real-world setting.
Under Thomas’s mentorship, I gained insights into the responsibilities of a finance professional and learned about the importance of accuracy in financial reporting. Thomas emphasized the importance of cross-referencing source data with report totals, and that even small errors in financial statements lead to misinformed decision-making.
My time at Ainsworth has helped me develop both professionally and personally, as I learned to navigate challenges such as tight deadlines, and resolving data reconciliation issues when numbers do not align. I am forever thankful for Thomas's mentorship and many of the memorable memories I made at Ainsworth.
