In grade 9 students are able to explore and communicate using various art forms used by Aboriginal peoples. In grades 10-12, students participate in studio work and art appreciation, translating thier vision into reality. They also develop a critical approcah to art and artistic styles, and apply their skills to new media and developing technologies.
At Madonna our visual arts department provides an innovative curriculum that incorporates a dynamic photography program.
Students utilize critical thinking skills and learned camera skills to effectively apply the creative process to produce unique and personal art. Through practice and exploration, students learn to interpret photographs using the critical analysis process which allows students to learn how to use art to interpret and relate to the world around them.
Drama has a proud tradition at Madonna, both in the school and at the competitive level outside the school. Students have the option of taking drama in class as well as participating in the drama club. Our drama classes and club are held in the Faithful Companions of Jesus Theatre. Madonna drama students are highly decorated in the Sears Drama festival, capturing multiple awards for acting, playwriting, and overall production.
The music program is all inclusive, there is no audition necessary for Vocal Music or Instrumental Music. Our music room is a beautiful space, newly renovated, and includes a brand new recording studio for student use.
Our instruments include all concert band instruments, various keyboard instruments, extensive percussion pieces and new to the school are ukulele’s!
