Dear KLP Friends,
We've come to the end of our year in the KLP. Ms. C. and Mrs. Rutherford enjoyed getting to do all sorts of learning jobs with you this year. We are so proud of all the hard work you did this year and hope that you'll celebrate your learning by having lots of fun this summer. We will miss you very much!
A fun way to practice letters and sounds is by using a squish bag. There are many YouTube videos that show different ways to make a squish bag (or sensory bag). An easy option is to fill a ziploc bag with any colour paint, or you could use hair gel or shaving cream with food colouring. Squeeze out any excess air and seal the top. Voila, you have your own canvas to write on. Your child might wish to write with his/her finger or use a Q-tip.
Call out various letters of sounds for your child to practice printing. If your child has already mastered most letters and sounds, try asking your child to print the initial or final sound in a word. Example: What sound is at the beginning of "bug"? What sound is at the end of "hat"?
Cut three small pieces of paper and print 1 letter on each piece of paper (f/u/n). Or you can use magnetic letters if you have them. Scramble up the letters and ask your child to move them around so that they spell the word "fun".
In this classic children's book, David just wants to have fun all the time, but he keeps getting himself into trouble.
Ask you child some questions after listening to the story.
Who are the characters in the story? (David and his mom)
Where do you think this story happened? (in David's home)
What are some of the things that David did? (answers will vary)
Why do you think David was sitting in the corner of the room near the end of the story? (He was in trouble for breaking the vase) How do you think he felt when he was in the corner? (Perhaps he felt ashamed/sad/sorry for what he did)
How did David feel at the end of the story? (Perhaps he felt happy/loved)
It's time to celebrate and have fun! Take a break and dance!
We did lots of learning in the KLP and had lots of fun! Look at the pictures and read about some of the KLP memories. What do you remember?
We learned the letter 'm' and the sound 'mmmmm'. We made a yummy meal! It was macaroni and cheese.
First, we boiled water in a pot.
Next, we poured macaroni into the boiling water and cooked it.
Then, we strained the macaroni in a colander, added milk, margarine, and cheese, and stirred it.
Last, we ate the macaroni and cheese. It was delicious!
We learned the letter 'o' and its sound and talked about bedtime routines.
First, we pretended to brush our teeth.
Next, we pretended to put on our pajamas.
Then, we read a bedtime story.
Last, we turned the light OFF and got under the covers to go to sleep.
BUT...children kept sneaking out of bed to turn the lights ON!
We learned the letter 'p' and its sound. We had a birthday party for Polly Pig! We baked cupcakes, decorated the classroom, made her a present with itmes that begin with the sound 'p', wrote a card, and made loot bags. It was a fun day!
We learned the letter 'n' and the sound 'nnnnn'. We took a flight to the North Pole on Noisy Ned Airlines. We packed our suitcase with warm clothes and also brought a present for Santa. But Santa wasn't there when we arrived. He was sick and was at the doctor. We felt sad that he wasn't there, but then we found candy canes that he left for us and that made us feel happy.
We learned the letter 'j' and its sound and made jiggling Jello. First, we poured boiling water over the crystals and watched them dissolve as we mixed it. Next, we stirred cold water into the Jello . Then, we placed it in the refrigerator to set. Last, we ate the Jello. It jiggled on our spoons and tasted sweet.
We played musical instruments when we learned the letters 'c' and 'k', and the letter 'd'. We practised beating the drums, clicking the castanets, strumming the guitar, playing the piano, and shaking the maracas and tambourines. Our KLP band was really rocking!
Everybody loves a good joke! Have some belly laughs with these funny kids jokes. After watching, pick some of your favourite jokes to memorize and pracitse telling them to family and friends.
