Most children can recognize when they are experiencing feelings such as sad/mad/glad (happy). In the book, "The Way I Feel", children are introduced to a wide range of emotions. When reading this book with your child, explain that ALL feelings are okay and that feeling different emotions is just part of being human.
Take moments throughout the book to pause and make connections to the emotion shown on the page. Encourage your child to recall a time when s/he felt that way. You might choose to read the book a second time with your child while sitting in front of a mirror. For each emotion, discuss the facial features displayed in the book and try to copy that emotion in the mirror.
The "ad" Word Family
Print out the Word Family activity. Cut out the letter strip at the bottom of the page. Then, cut two slits beside the letters "ad". (Note: Do not cut the slits all the way to the bottom of the page.) Slide the letter strip through the two slits so that the /gl/ is showing. Help your child read the word (glad). Continue pulling each new sound through the slits to make new words in the "ad" family.
