Have you always wanted to be involved with drag? Join us as we try to make being in drag as accessible as possible. Each workshop will be hosted by one of our amazing local drag artists to teach you the skills to become a pro. At the very end, you can compete in a low stakes drag show pageant against your new fellow drag artists.
A local drag performer leads each workshop, focusing on various aspects of drag while sharing a bit of history. All workshops are held in MSC L427 from 7PM - 8PM! Here's what to expect:
October 1st: Makeup & Hair: Led by Dulce Gabbana, we focus on how to put on a face of makeup, combining aspects of historical stage makeup with modern aesthetics
October 8th: Clothing & Sewing: With collaboration with Depop, Brock Bottom teaches us safety around rhinestone application and the basics of handsewing!
October 15th: Talent & Lipsync: Sir Loin takes us through a journey of being yourself and giving your heart to the stage (along with how to fight stage fright)!
October 22nd: Persona Building: Local queen, Melaka Mystika, teaches us how to choose our personas. She leads us through thoughts and conversations to bringing drag to life on the stage.
The Mini-Draggieland Drag Pageant is the final showcase of our October workshop series! It is a celebratory, low-stakes drag competition where student performers share the personas they’ve developed throughout the month.
This evening, we celebrate drag artistry, performance, identity, and creative expression. Offering a welcoming space for attendees and performers, we experience the artistry and empowerment of drag in an inclusive, educational setting.
This event will take place on Wednesday, October 29 in Rudder Forum, and is open to the public through ticketed entry. Performers will participate in a brief Q&A segment, followed by a talent performance (lip sync, dance, comedy, or other creative act). A panel of local drag artists will offer affirming feedback and select a winner based on creativity, confidence, and crowd engagement.
