"A New Nation"
In this annotated matrix, I analyze the unit "A New Nation" from the Texas myWorld Social Studies curriculum. My analysis considers how the unit fulfills expectations of 21st century education, while also determining how the unit aligns with TEKS and standardized assessments. Finally, I provide recommendations for how this unit/curriculum could increase its incorporation of 21st century education and improve its alignment with state standards and tests.
This paper identifies the main learning theory utilized by the Texas myWorld Social Studies curriculum. I provide an overview of this learning theory and provide evidence on how the unit "A New Nation" utilizes this theory effectively.
In this presentation, I investigated the stance of two professional organizations. I then considered how the organizations' recommendations align with my unit, as well as how they highlight possible modifications needed to strengthen the curriculum. Finally, I identified resources these organizations provide for educators.
In the overall summary report, I provided a brief overview of the curriculum and unit, including the creators, standards, and goals. I summarized the main findings of my previous work and proposed my final modification. Additionally, I discussed a potential challenge that could arise from this modification and identified two remedies for the challenge. Finally, in my multimedia dissemination, I presented the summary report to fellow 5th grade social studies teachers in my school district.
