This unit continues the concept of Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, explored in A Multicultural World. Through the viewing of the film Spirited Away, students will appreciate the unique artistry of Anime, while developing skills in relation to visual literacy through responding to the film and composing their own texts. While studying the film, they will also learn to view the world of other cultures dealing with common issues of environmentalism, coming of age and aspects of dealing with an increasing lack of connection between the industrialised world and the natural. They will also consider questions of authenticity of cultural and experiential reflections through Anime film.
