Reading for pleasure
Encouraging boys to read from an early age is essential and the long term benefits for their learning are numerous. Getting boys interested in reading though can be a struggle; more often than not their love for reading can wane in the teenage years. At St Mary's we are committed to fostering a love of reading for pleasure and helping students find what interests them.
Sydney has an abundance of quality bookstores and often the best strategy is to let the boys explore for themselves and find something that they find interesting. Below are a few links to some of Sydney's most well known and loved bookstores (with a variety of suggested books for children and young adults). Furthermore, just below the bookstores are a number of quality contemporary Young Adult fiction novels.
If you continue to scroll down you will also find a series of flowcharts and infographics that suggest a variety of books within varying interest groups.
