Kindergarten Social Studies
Students in kindergarten will explore social studies, by integrating history, geography, civics, economics, and personal financial literacy. Through inquiry-based learning, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the world around them, foster critical thinking skills, and cultivate a sense of civic responsibility. Students will explain the qualities of an informed and engaged citizen, practice citizenship skills such as courtesy, honesty, and fairness when working with others, and explain the importance of rules following classroom rules. Students will ask questions, discuss ideas, and sequence important events from the past, Identify information from primary and/or secondary sources to enhance collective memory and explore differences and similarities in the lives of children and families from different time periods and geographic areas. Students will also understand how the environment, geographic features, and climate impact lifestyles. Students will recognize that choices are based on wants and needs and differentiate between wants and needs and consider limited resources when making purchasing decisions. In the end, kindergartners will have developed a solid foundation in social studies, including history, geography, civics, economics, and personal financial literacy. They will have acquired critical thinking skills, a sense of civic responsibility, and an understanding of the world around them, setting them on a path for lifelong learning and active participation in their communities.
