Year of 2020-2021, our kindergartens began their journey with discussing their feelings and colors, and how to communicate to form friendship. We talked about the colors we felt like when we played alone and when we played together with friends as well as how these colors represented their feelings. We made origami puppets and colored the faces with our own emotion colors. “When I play alone, I am color green. Green is happy.” “When I play with friends, it is color blue. I like to play with friends.” In unit two, we used Origami houses as one of our provocations. We brainstormed how our houses looked like, were they all the same, what were the differences, what details did we notice. Our children used origami houses with played alone puppets as playing alone at home and played together puppets for playing with friends at school or online.
Origami folding was the most joyful process. Kindergartens in both programs took the challenges well and were proud of their final products. Some tried many times till they were the experts of folding the puppets. They were kind and caring by helping each other and appreciating each other’s art work.
