At Sumiton Christian School, the fine arts play a vital role in fulfilling our mission to educate the whole child—academically, spiritually, and creatively. Through visual art, music, and performance, students are encouraged to develop their God-given talents while building confidence, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for beauty and expression. Fine arts instruction supports critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance, while also providing students with meaningful opportunities to glorify God through creativity. By integrating the arts into our educational program, Sumiton Christian School nurtures well-rounded students who are prepared to lead, serve, and reflect Christ in all areas of life.
At Sumiton Christian School, our award-winning visual arts program serves students from K5 through 12th grade, cultivating creativity, skill, and confidence at every stage of development. Through intentional instruction and meaningful artistic experiences, SCS students have consistently won or placed in Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) district and state-level competitions, and most recently celebrated a student recognized as a 4th Congressional District Art Competition finalist. More than accolades, the visual arts at SCS help students explore the beauty of God’s creation and recognize the creative nature placed within each of us by our Creator. As students learn to observe, imagine, and express, they develop an appreciation for art as a reflection of God’s handiwork and a powerful way to communicate truth, beauty, and faith.
Music education at Sumiton Christian School plays a vital role in students’ mental growth, emotional development, and spiritual formation, beginning as early as preschool. Through instruction in vocal and instrumental music, students develop focus, memory, discipline, and collaboration—skills that support learning across all academic areas. SCS students participate annually in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Choral Festival, gaining performance experience and musical confidence. As students progress into junior high and high school, they engage in music appreciation courses and have opportunities to participate in marching band, concert band, and worship ensemble or band. These experiences not only strengthen musical ability but also nurture students’ spiritual well-being by encouraging them to use their talents in worship, service, and praise.
The dramatic arts program at Sumiton Christian School provides students with meaningful opportunities to grow in confidence, communication, and collaboration while developing their creative and expressive skills. Through participation in both a fall and spring theatrical production, students learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and commitment as they bring stories to life on stage. In addition, SCS students have the opportunity to compete annually in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Performing Arts competitions and the Trumbauer Festival, gaining valuable performance experience and recognition beyond the classroom. At SCS, theater is more than performance—it is a powerful tool for personal growth, creative expression, and using God-given gifts to inspire, uplift, and glorify Him.
