Sumiton Christian's Elementary program provides a loving, caring, academically challenging, Christian environment for our students. Students will expand their knowledge of phonics, spelling, reading, mathematics, social studies, science, writing/penmanship and Bible education as they advance through the lower elementary school grades.
For example, days usually begin with Bible lessons using the Abeka curriculum then students will focus on grade specific subjects taught with a Biblical perspective. As students transition from the basics of lower elementary grades into higher level thinking we begin to spend more time in science with exciting hands-on labs, history, language development and a deeper study and of God's Word.
We also love to see our students learning to reach out with compassion as they grow mentally, physically and spiritually in to mature young people. Students can become involved in various service projects within the school and our community and begin to prioritize their activities, hobbies and educational goals. Elementary school also provides lots of time for fun learning on fields trips to Science Centers, American Village, the Space and Rocket Center and other educational excursions.
At Sumiton Christian School, students are encouraged to put their faith into action through meaningful service projects both within the school and throughout our community. From creating prayer cards for individuals facing health challenges or difficult seasons, to raising funds to replace a worn or tattered American flag, students learn the importance of empathy, stewardship, and responsibility. These experiences help students begin to thoughtfully prioritize their activities, hobbies, and educational goals while developing hearts of service and a lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Elementary students have the opportunity to participate in STEAM Club, where they engage in activities such as building and testing structures, conducting simple experiments, and solving real-world challenges through creative design and teamwork. In addition, students in grades 1–5 attend a weekly class in the computer lab, where they learn digital citizenship, develop logic and problem-solving skills, and are introduced to coding and responsible computer use through age-appropriate games and interactive activities. This balanced approach helps students build curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong foundation in both science and technology in a safe environment.
Elementary school provides meaningful opportunities for hands-on, real-world learning beyond the classroom. Through engaging educational field trips—such as visits to local science centers, immersive experiences at American Village, and explorations of our universe at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center—students are able to connect classroom lessons to real-life experiences. These excursions deepen understanding, spark curiosity, and help students see how their learning applies to the world around them.
