Life Sports: ** Prerequisite: Successful completion of the required Physical Education credit** The words that best describe this elective class are variety, fun, involvement, activity, enjoyment, flexibility, and personal “wellness”. The objectives include teaching students various things to do to stay in shape for the rest of their lives, hook students on sports and fitness activities they can participate in for enjoyment and good health after graduation. The following activities are possible offerings: Emphasis on Life Fitness (including Presidential Physical Fitness Testing), Tae Bo, Yoga, Aerobics/Wellness, Soccer, Golf, Football, Rugby, Water Aerobics, Aquatic Games, Gymnastics, Cross Country Skiing, Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball, Cosom Hockey, Bowling, Weight Training, Badminton, Snorkeling, Intro to Scuba, Canoe/Kayaking, La Crosse, Open Gym Activities, Softball, Walleyball Downhill Skiing, Horseback Riding, and Sky Zone. REMINDERS: A fee for golf, bowling, gymnastics, canoe/kayaking, and Walleyball is charged to each student to cover non-school facilities’ costs. Seniors will be given scheduling
Freshman PE: **Successful completion of this class is a pre-requisite for all other physical education classes.** Students are required to enroll and successfully pass this state requirement for graduation. It meets State of Michigan content standards. A physically educated person demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform various physical activities. This is an introductory course that must take before enrolling in upper-level PE courses. This course focuses on basic PE introductory knowledge needed to become a healthy adult, prerequisites for upper-level PE courses, and physical development/ conditioning. The class meets daily for one semester. Students will participate and be assessed in a variety of lifelong activities, including but not limited to: tennis, flag football, softball, volleyball, basketball, aerobics, water safety/swimming (3-week unit), pickleball, team handball, lacrosse, soccer, recreational games, and continual physical fitness assessment.
