Accounting I & II: I GRADES 10-12 1 CREDIT Students will learn the theory and terminology necessary to start a basic accounting system for personal use, a service business, and a merchandising business. Students interested in a business career should take this course. A simulation is used after each semester to give students experiences in handling actual business forms. Students perform basic accounting functions on the computer. Accounting traits of accuracy, neatness, orderliness, thoroughness, and responsibility are stressed. This class, if taken in 12 th grade, may fulfill the fourth-year math requirement.
Advanced Computer Education (A.C.E.)/CIS 101: ) GRADES 9-12 0.5 CREDIT CIS 101 is a survey course on computer concepts and applications associated with the current generation of computer technology. Students will study terminology as it applies to computers, networks, operating systems, and internet usage. The class is hands-on and students will work with current productivity software such as Microsoft Office in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. This is currently the only course offered focusing on essential life learning proficient computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Google Applications, email, and effective technology communications. This course may be taken as a 4 credit Glen Oaks dual enrollment course.
Introduction to Business: GRADES 9-12 0.5 CREDIT The Business Exploration course is designed for students interested in the business world, whether in the private, public or personal area. How to compete in the global workplace and operate a successful business as well as the responsibilities of business ownership and the related activities associated with the business operation are included. Students will broaden their learning of business by creating a business plan and by visiting several local businesses.
Personal Finance: GRADE 12 1 CREDIT In personal finance, students learn fundamental money management skills, including calculating gross income, paying taxes, recordkeeping, establishing savings accounts, handling credit, making mortgage payments, investing, and more in order to prepare them for success in work and in life. They also review the fundamental math operations in launching and running a business. This class may fulfill the fourth-year State of Michigan math requirement.
Web Design: GRADES 10-12 0.5 CREDIT This course is an introduction to web design where students will learn what makes a website useful and attractive, and put that information into practice by design. It is a goal of this course to have an informative website available upon completion of the class. This course will be designed to teach students the basic concepts of Web Page creation using HTML programming language and other programs. Areas of concentration will be formatting text, hypertext links, graphics, and other multimedia.
