Common skills that are developed in the LC that you will utilize in the real world are public interactions, communication, and leadership skills. Since I hold a more mentorship-type role now, working in the LC is helping enhance these skills I developed the first time around. When working in the LC, I get to engage with my peers, understanding their needs and providing them with the help they need. While also offering support and guidance to the mentees in my class.
When working in the LC I feel pretty confident in my ability to carry out duties and assist students effectively. Now that I’m in Leadership, I have duties to ensure that my peers also feel confident in their abilities to carry out tasks in the LC. When my classmates ask for help, I don’t mind giving advice on how to perform a task and showing them how it’s done, making sure they have the tools to succeed in their positions. Something I know I need to improve on is setting a good example when it comes to turning in work and completing tasks on time. This is important because I'm expected to set a standard as a leader; if I fail to set a good example, not only would it reflect poorly on me, but it would also send the wrong message to my peers. Overall working in the LC is fun and I like that I have the opportunity to share ideas and create a space in the library that makes students feel supported.
