A pinchpot is when you mold the clay. You start by molding the clay into a ball and then pinching the middle, you then work your way around to make a pot.
I picked a penguin because I thought the round shape would help make it easier to make a rattle.
One challenge I faced was when the penguin broke in the kiln, I decided to use air dry clay to make up the remainder of the pieces.
I think the colors I picked and the hat were successful in the piece.

Pros- The colors I picked for the piece gave it a really homey feel, I think it made the slab more aesthetically pleasing. The way I structured the buildings makes it look very put together and I think it overall worked very well together.
Cons- I feel like I could have made the slab larger.
Process- I started by making the slab and then cutting out the buildings I wanted sticking out. I then waited for it to dry before carving tiny details like windows, pillars and bricks.
Cons- the color distribution isn't what I hoped for
Process- I started by forming the generic structure of the piece by using coiling and then I formed it by using my hands to push it into shape. It then got fired and then I put wood, wire, salt, teabags and egg shells in the piece to make it vibrant with color.
Pros- I feel like the shape of the turtle duck turned out really good and the details on the shell give it a more realistic look.
Cons- The colos smudged a bit and the blue was too bright for my liking.
Process- I started by making the body and carving out the neck and shape of the head. I then waited for it to dry a bit more. Once it was bisque fired I decided to use acrylics to paint it.
I personally enjoyed this experience, it was very challenging but doable. I do think if I got the chance to practice more I'd be able to make my pieces better. Something I found challenging was in the beginning, when you need to seal the clay to the wheel so it doesnt move, I found it to be a bit hard to seal it properly without airbubbles forming. Other than that the experience was enjoyable and I would do it again.
Pros- The shape and overall structure of the piece.
Cons- The color palette wasn't what I hoped for it to turn out to look like, it doesn't look like it blends well together and I was hoping to achieve a well blended look.
Process- I started with picking out the wood pieces that I thought would match well with the piece and I came up with various combinations for the piece, then I hot glued them in the form I liked the most and painted it.
Pros- I think the colors of the piece work really well together and the light really brings everything together.
Cons- The tree is constantly drooping and I had to figure out how to make it stand up but that made it bulky.
Process- I started with picking a book and a theme. I then made the basic structure of the tree and started working with colors. After the trees and colors were laid down I put the lights all over the tree. I then put cotton to make strange looking leaves.
