For this drawing I referenced my own hand. I decided to do some light shading to give it some form. I really like the overall shape of the first two hands I did but the one on the bottom right could use some work, I feel like it isn't facing the right direction and some of the anatomy feels off.
For the portrait I decided to draw random features I thought would fit together. I decided to go based on intuition. I really like the overall form of the face but I wish I could've spent more time on the hair.
I decided to do the fish eye perspective for this piece. I've never tried it before so it was challenging to figure out the composition of everything . Overall I really like how the character turned out I would just change the way the sidewalks are sitting because of blocky they look.
For this piece I decided to do a landscape, mainly cause I've had a bit of art block and I wanted to make a sketch based off of imagination. I really like how the mountains and clouds turned out but I feel like the river and ground could use some work.
In this piece I did a still life of a scene given to us. I chose this angle because you have a clear view of all the components at a relatively easier perspective. I tried getting the values as accurate to real life by using 6B and 8B pencils to get the darkest shades. The hardest part was definitely making the glass accurate but I was able to make it work. The most successful part in my opinion is the overall shading and composition.
For this project we had to copy one of six art pieces. I started by making rough shapes then adding finer details and shading. The hardest part was the side profile, I feel like I need to practice more different side profiles so I can match the reference image more accurately. I do like the piece, I think it came together pretty nicely in the end.
In this piece we had to use the pen and ink techniques we learn in class. I chose this idea because I never really do pieces with an urban feel/ buildings and wanted to try new things. I decided to use all pen and ink instead of ink wash because it represents the style I wanted.
The most challenging part of the piece was definitely the stippling because of how long it took. I also found the hatching in certain areas a bit difficult to get the values right. Overall I really like how the piece turned out.
In this piece we had to use a white color pencil and black paper to get the light values/ highlights to make the drawing. I chose to do greek statues but decided to make the wings broken to make them scarier. I started off with a basic pencil sketch and then worked it through with a white color pencil. The hardest part was maintaining the shadows but I was able to fix it. Overall I'd like to make more details to the wings.
In this piece we had to make a landscape using color pencils. I really like the way the composition and colors worked out but if I could do it again I'd change the way the clouds and tree look because it doesn't really work with color pencils.
In this piece we had to make a portrait of a person using graphite. I really like the way the features look individually and the lighting but the overall composition of the face got messed up, if there was one thing I'd change is how I approached drawing it. I would change the way I started off drawing the piece.
For this project we had to make a figure drawing using either graphite or charcoal. I chose graphite because I am comfortable with the medium and know how to use it well. I've never made a piece to this scale so the values and composition was very important to me.
I really like how the face turned out. If I could redo the piece I would darken the values on the cape because it would have a really good contrast to the hair. I'd also make the top part of the sword more prominent because it isn't as visible as I'd like it to be.
For the final I decided to do pen and ink because its one of my strongest mediums. I really wanted to focus on texture. I really like how the trees and ground turned out, the way it looks was accurate to how I imagined. If I could do it again I'd get rid of the mountain and switch up the composition a little bit but overall I think I did a good job capturing a story in the piece.
