Composition group assignment:
Golden Spiral
Symmetry
Rule of thirds
Charcoal- apple drawing
This drawing is based on some of the things that I think represent what I like best. This drawing was made using graphite and these are the reasons for the items:
I've been getting into reading so I added the book
I really like flowers and roses are in my top 3 favourites so I added them
In this drawing I wanted to capture an oncoming storm and the peace before it. I wanted to show the oncoming storm by dramatizing the lines in particular areas to try to show the wind pressure, like the direction of the grass, character etc.
I like drawing sceneries, usually involving clouds so I wanted to incorporate them in this drawing. Something that really inspired this drawing is how I used to draw mountains and trees and seeing the progress I made. I like how this piece turned out because I feel like all the lines have been put on it for a reason and I feel like this assignment taught me how to control the strokes I put down and the impact they would have on the final piece.
This piece was made with water colors, it's a mountain scenery during sunset. I really wanted to push the boundaries of my comfort zone with the colors I chose for the sunset, I decided to use bolder colors such as red and hints of purple.
For this piece I wanted to continue to expand on mountains because it's something I am weak at. I find the mountains and shading the most successful in this peace and I learnt composition, placement and lighting from this piece, especially ambient lighting.
This piece was made with acrylic paints, I tried to capture an older style kitchen with bright colors and utensils, almost like late 90's to early 2000's style, this was also the reason the pallet colors are very bright and saturated.
This piece was inspired by a dish my grandma used to make with some modifications and to try to capture nostalgia I used vivid colors and familiar objects. I think I successfully captured the dish but I do think the window could use some work. I learnt how to use bright colors without making it seem like too much is going on in the painting.
For my final project, I decided to carve orchids because they are my favourite flowers. I started with sketching and transferring the orchid on to the linoleum block where I then carved it, it was a bit tedious. The reason I chose this shade of blue is because it used to be my favourite color and I thought it would fit this piece well.
I find some of the lines successful in this piece but I do think I could have done it differently, maybe inverted it. I learnt how to carve linoleum from this project.
For this project I wanted to make it nature themed, I chose this theme because I enjoy making projects with an elemental theme to them. I changed some things about the project, it looks different from the sketch because I tried something new to see how I'd like it.
If I could do it again I would change the shape of it and add more leaves.
For my final project in mixed media, I decided to use pen and ink with color pencils. Since the topic was surrealism I decided to draw some of the first things that came to my mind such as an apple, balcony, dragons, etc. I also added a character because I like adding characters to my drawings since I feel like it gives more life to the piece.
I feel like the sky and dragons were the most successful part of the piece, I do feel like the lighting at the bottom of the drawing needed more adjustment and the mountains could use more rendering.
