Leading Lines Roll

Enlarged Print

When taking this roll of film, I wanted to use harsh shadows to get darker darks in the developing process. I caught this image walking over from Morse Street School to FHS in the morning, making the shadows very long and helpful for contrast and leading line purposes. I walk this pathway everyday after driving my mom to work, but that day was particularly pretty. The snow along the path with the freshly plowed pavement makes the image striking in it’s contrast especially. For an angle, I decided to get close to the fence to create an extra line complementing the others. Of course I utilized leading lines in this image, as was the assignment, but I also had selective focus, making the nearby grate of the fence and the trees and buildings in the back out of focus. My trouble with this reel came when printing. I had used glossy light-sensitive paper when doing my test strips and settling on an f11 aperture with an 8 second exposure. However, I ran out of the glossy type paper before making my final enlarged print. The semi-glossy paper I used ended up making the image a bit more greyscale than I had wanted. I solved this issue post scanning the image by using my default editing software to darken the overall image. This worked well and I am very happy with the final anticipated project. While I wish the printing process had went as planned, it all worked out in the end.
