The subject of this picture is my dog, Anubis. It was taken down by Freeport Public Docks. We went down to the docks and got Anubis to sit in the middle, which can be kind of hard so we promised treats. I used a Nixon DSLR camera on the no flash setting. When I saw the wooden structure I immediately thought it would be a perfect framing shot. Aside from it being easy for me to take a picture of my dog, I thought it was funny how small the frame made her look. My mom didn’t want to be in the picture, so she took Anubis’ leash and hid behind a beam. But the picture doesn’t draw attention to the leash, almost making it feel like she’s just some dog wandering the docks, which is not entirely uncommon. Framing was the main focus of this shot, using the small tower to ‘frame’ Anubis. The shot draws the eye to the subject, the dog. Alongside this, the picture has selective framing on the foreground, formal balance due to the subject being centered in the frame, and low key lighting due to the muted colors of the photo. I edited the photo to give off an almost vintage vibe, and it helped emphasize the subject while making the picture more clear. I think the picture overall might not have an overt meaning to it, but it could be extrapolated that it is to highlight the welcoming nature of sailing. The photo overall could show the subject clearer, and I plan to improve that for the future.
