For this Time Capsule Drawing assignment we were prompted to draw a self- portrait, a still life, and a perspective drawing. For the still life and perspective drawings I only used the twenty minutes we were given in class to work on them. The self-portrait I did at home, giving myself a little over double the time to complete it. For my still life, I chose to draw a little toy plane that was sitting in the window still. That little toy jet is a souvenir that my mom got my brother around 6 years or so when she went to California. For my perspective drawing I chose to draw my perspective of my barn from my desk where I do my school work. I chose this perspective in particular because I will be looking at it for the next few months and I think that I would be cool to redraw that perspective at the end of the year to see how my skills have grown and how things have changed.
For all of these drawing I used a pencil and sketch paper. The sketch paper I used was 5.5" x 8.5" so pretty small but I love it because I can take it everywhere I go. It's convenient to carry around and to alway have by me so I tend to draw in it alot. I do hope over the course of the year that I will be working with more materials, I would like to work more with charcoal and oil pastels.
For the still life I started just by finding shapes and shadows to give it some dimension. For the perspective drawing I had a hard time figuring out where to start, but I started by just putting down the prominent lines and added things from there. For the self-portrait I didn't have a good mirror to use so I used photobooth. In this drawing I tried to focus on values instead of heavy lines. All these sketches need more time to come together, and I hope that over the course of the year my skills will improve and I will be able to make more advanced art.
