Unit Overview - Space

In this unit, we started out with practicing with negative space and the use of drawings when creating or using space. The Zentangle Value Strip gave us practice and the taught lesson about using shapes to minimize space or show the expansion of space from left to right or right to left. The Negative Space Hand Drawing taught us about the concept of negative space, the boundaries used, how it is shown and used in a piece of artwork. Finally, the Negative Space Leaves was our golden opportunity to show creativity and express our ideas through the use of negative space and the background/drawings around it.  I particularly enjoyed the Negative Space Leaves drawing because I could experiment with using different types of media and using these types of media to express thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I was able to portray a deeper meaning and cross boundaries with this artwork. This unit was very important because we were able to identify negative space/space and shape our understanding of it by making drawings and experimenting.
