Foundations of Art

I think there are multiple ways my artwork reflects my strengths as a learner. I think one way is that they show that I am able to learn new medias pretty quickly. An example of this is the scratchboard eye I made one my second attempted scratchboard piece ever.  Another one of my strengths is that I am very much a perfectionist so when I make a piece it has to basically be perfect for me to actually like it. This leads me to put a lot of effort into pieces and they look pretty good when I actually finish them.  A weakness I have is that I am a perfectionist, this caused me to not finish a lot of pieces because they would have taken an insane amount of time if I had actually finished them.

I think one way I have gotten better is that I was able to choose pieces that would be more realistic to make in the time we had. In the beginning I had a lot of late pieces because I would try to make very detailed pieces that would have taken forever. By the end I had chosen pieces that I would be able to make and fit into my schedule to make.

I don't really feel that any pieces were that much more challenging than the others but if I could choose one it would be the duck stamp. The reason why the duck stamp was difficult for me is that I was using gouache on a realistic piece. I had never used gouache in my life before this, so I didn't do very well on the background and it was pretty difficult for me to get the outcome I wanted. The colored pencil part was also difficult just because of how long it took to make.

A goal I have for the summer is to make at least one finished piece of art a week. Specifically I wanted to do more pieces with colored pencil and marker. I want to make realistic animals and add the little monster doodle things I make. I also want to get better at choosing the colors for my doodles which will be easier because I am going to buy more markers. I am going to an art camp this summer as well though I forget which thing it was one but I think it was painting.
