As the school year winds down and our days grow longer, our town is gearing up for a season of sunshine, fun, and community activities. From farmers markets to local festivals and family-friendly events, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of summer in River Falls. Here's a look at some of the exciting activities planned for this summer.
One of the most exciting events happening in River Falls is River Falls Days. It's a weekend full of fun, food, and live entertainment. There's something for everyone– whether you're into music, food, games, or just hanging out with friends. Live bands play throughout the summer, the energy always amazing and friendly. Over the summer many food trucks visit for a couple days, offering tacos, mini donuts, and many other delicious foods. If you're looking to help out in the community, every Monday the West Wind Supper Club does bingo. All proceeds go to the River Falls Youth Hockey Association, meaning that every game you play helps kids continue doing what they love. For more information on what's happening in River Falls this summer you can visit River Falls activity guide or the River Falls Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau.
Parks:
If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to enjoy the outdoors this summer, Willow River, Kinnickinnic, and William O’Brien State Parks are great, close to home, options. Willow River is famous for its stunning waterfall and hiking trails that lead right to the falls. Their nature center shows off many reptiles and even offers hands-on experiences. The park offers classes and events for community members to kayak with a naturalist, explore Wisconsin’s outdoors, and learn about flora and fauna. Willow River also has geocaching, a great way to get some exercise in while getting something in return. Kinnickinnic State park is more laid-back, with open prairies and wooded trails. The quiet atmosphere makes it perfect for fishing or simply bird watching. Just across the border is William O’Brien state park, sitting along the St. Croix River.

The park offers everything from kayaking and canoeing to riverside hiking and camping. If you don’t like tent camping William O’Brien has camper cabins that are a great way to get outside without having to pitch your own tent. Each park offers their own unique charm and is a great way to get some vitamin D. So if you enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming, or just hanging out with friends, these parks are awesome places to explore this summer.
Lake Elmo
Swimming:
River Falls, Wisconsin, offers a variety of summer activities perfect for cooling off and enjoying the outdoors. Glen Park Pool is a popular spot for families, featuring a large swimming pool, a diving board, and a splash pad for younger children. The pool is surrounded by a spacious park with picnic areas and playgrounds. Glen Park has volleyball and tennis courts, offering a day of fun even if you don’t like swimming. Lake Elmo Park Reserve, located in Minnesota, has a man-made, chlorinated swim pond that offers a beach vibe while still having the cleanliness of a pool. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the lake offers shallow areas suitable for children and deeper sections for older swimmers. The park features picnic areas, playgrounds, and hiking trails, having a variety of activities for visitors of all ages.
Additionally, the Klaas-Jonas Community Pool in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, is a favorite among locals for its heated outdoor pool and lap lanes, diving board, and children’s splash area. The facility also includes a concession stand, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the summer with friends. Whether you’re looking for a beach or pool, these facilities offer a great way to cool off during the summer heat.
Pierce County Fair:
The Pierce County fair located in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, is a four day fair from August 7th to August 10th with food trucks, carnival rides, and live animals. Members of the Ellsworth and surrounding communities can enter projects into the fair to be placed in the exhibitions, a great way to display a project you worked hard on. Participants can enter items such as photography, woodworking, and even baked goods. In addition to the exhibitions and carnival rides, the fair includes activities that change daily like tractor pulls, live music and a talent show. The fair not only provides entertainment, but is a great way for FFA and 4-H members to get involved by having livestock judged and working at the food booths. Many food trucks donate their profits to organizations in need of the money, like the Red Cross. While the fair is a fun way to relax in the summer, it also serves as a way for people to appreciate our community and agriculture.
