Step onto the court and feel the pulse of excitement. Welcome to the world of RFHS boys’ tennis. The River Falls boys’ tennis team has doubled over the past four years. The team has 27 dedicated athletes, three coaches (Joe Young, Tim Thum, and Don Leak) and two captains (Sam Majerus and Henry Whipkey).

Coach Joe Young states tennis has grown in popularity over the years. As the team gets more competitive, the team can compete with the best teams out there. Tennis is a life-long sport that lets you socialize and work out. Coach Young said “The last time River Falls won a conference title was 1995. We hope to change that as the team builds diligently every day.”

Henry Whipkey provided further insight into the team's growth, sharing how his freshman year began with around 13 players, and over time it increased in players. A strength that Henry sees is the skill improvement every year and that the team is dedicated to enhancing their abilities. He highlights that the sportsmanship in tennis is the positive impact and being kind to others regardless of who the opponent is.

Henry says his coaches have impacted him by giving him plenty of opportunities, advice, and lifting to the team. They always continue to build a great atmosphere and make practice fun. When asked about advice he would give future players he said, “Always enjoy the ride because you never know when it could end, and always make the most of every season and opportunity you are given. Most importantly, have fun with your team, and don't take it too seriously sometimes!” The tennis team strives for a positive team culture on and off the court.
