Reverse Engineering

Ryan Bacich - Reverse Engineering Report and Presentation
Reverse Engineering Document

In this project, we reverse-engineered the dual-shock 4 to get a better understanding of how the components function together. Primarily, we dissembled the controller, breaking it up into different segments to analyze. We divided the controller into three sections the shell, the motherboard, and the skeleton. Then we analyzed the different components from a functional, structural, manufacturing, and material standpoint.

Content:

Structural Analysis: Analysis of the overall structure of the controller

Material Analysis: Analysis of the different materials used and the cost / effect of using those materials on the overall controller.

Manufacturing Analysis: The performance analysis of the manufacturing process and how the components are assembled together.

Functional Analysis: The analysis of the functional parts of the dual-shock 4 system and how the components are connected together.

Reflection:

Overall, I felt like I contributed heavily to this project. My determined work ethic was one of the standout characteristics of my contribution to the project. My in-depth detailing on the slides along with my completion of a majority of the reverse engineering report exemplified how I went above and beyond in my completion of the project. Additionally, I also excelled in this project on my team management. Throughout the project, I took a leadership role by keeping my team on track minimizing distractions throughout or work time. However, I had some areas in which I could've used some improvement. One of the main areas was my time management throughout the project. When we had first started we were on track to finish ahead of time. However, because we spent too much time analyzing the different components we had fallen behind towards the end of the project. Additionally, I could have improved my project by including less text on the slide show and adding more relevant imagery. Even with these pitfalls in my efforts, I feel conclusively that my contribution to the overall project was successful.
