In this project I worked with Rory Smith. We together were looking at Thalassemia and how it effects the body and how it can happen. We did research to see how DNA would change to create this mutation for this person to have this disease. Thalassemia is a disease in which the person has bone deformities, swelling, and tiredness caused by the blood cells being produced oddly.
PROTEIN SYNTHESIS - Process in which proteins are made. Proteins are vital for almost all things and cells. It is made up of transcription / translation.
TRANSCRIPTION - Occurring in the nucleus. Genetic material provides the information for what proteins to build, and is "transcribed" to mRNA (messenger RNA). Complementary base pairing is used by RNA polymerase to build the mRNA.
TRANSLATION - After transcribing, mRNA is transported to the cytoplasm for translation. Codons are three-nucleotide groups. Anticodons with complementary base pairing are paired with those codons. Anticodons are coupled to tRNA (transfer RNA) molecules, which are connected to amino acids themselves. A unique amino acid is coded for by each codon. Polypeptide chains are formed when these amino acids are linked together with peptide bonds. This is the protein's main structure.
DNA - Deoxyribonucleic acid it has the genetic material of all humans and many other living things. ribonucleic acid often used for animals for messenger and transfer functions, as DNA is not allowed to leave a nucleus.
Proteins come in four distinct structures. Amino acids fold together to form the secondary structure of proteins. The major sorts of shapes that amino acid chains can fold into using hydrogen bonds are helices and pleated sheets. The interaction of R groups of specific amino acids to form three-dimensional forms is referred to as the tertiary structure of proteins. In tertiary structure, hydrophilic vs. hydrophobic groups are important. The final quaternary structure is concerned with the interaction of numerous amino acid chains in the same protein. The function of the final protein is determined by all four levels of structure.
Pros :)
Critical thinking - We were executing our vision for our own parts of the work so we were able to get our idea through to save time and allow for better work
Character - We were able to see how people can have situations that can be unfortunate. This can help visualize how we can improve and help people
Cons :\
Communication - We didn't particularly communicate as much as we would have wanted to have improved our project but we both knew our general basis of work needed
Collaboration - We worked on our own parts of the assignment, little insight on each others work
