In this project, we were supposed to choose two subjects regarding the oppression of Native Americans: The removal of Indians mascots in sports teams, and the removal of Columbus Day. With these topics, we then were to create an argumentative essay, arguing whether the movement is justified or not. For this project, I argued that the replacing of Columbus Day was justified, due to false achievements given to Columbus, and the abuse Columbus placed onto the Natives.

Reflection

Writing has usually been a strong suit with me, and as such I could get this project done with relative ease. During quarantine, I did a lot of research, writing and critique over topics that interested me. As a result, I grew my grammar usage and vocabulary, a skill which is paying off in the long term. This final result, while not what I put my full into, still shows the improvement I have made with writing.

As for the topic, I chose the replacement of Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day because its a matter i feel strongly about. Although mascots is an important discussion to have, I have past knowledge about Columbus Day, and as such can comment more about the topic.

Although the project was acceptable, I could have researched more sources on my own, and added more pragraphs in the essay. Some more detailed analysis into errors regarding writings about Columbus would also strengthen my point. Lastly, a few grammar optimizations, as well as some citing errors could have been corrected as well.
