Newton Public Schools' Parents Rights Bill: A Case Study in Censorship and Regressive Education Policy

By Jesse Young-Paulson

The Dover Legacy Scholars program has also been the target of conservative non-profit group Parents Defending Education, a group which promotes the discontinuation of curricula with "emphasis on students' group identities: race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and gender,” often categorically denying the existence of systemic racism and endorsing book banning, according to SourceWatch. Their complaint argued that there was discrimination on the basis of race, against white students.

French-obsessed, scarf-wearing, and incredibly tasteful, Jason Wu is a junior at Needham High School, and an extremely interesting fashionista interviewee. I love his unique sense of what matters to him in fashion, and the sophistication of his style!

Let us set the scene: It’s a regular afternoon in the library, and per usual, we are trying to get all of our homework done in a 50 minute period. A difficult feat, but one that shouldn’t be too difficult in the quiet focus area that is the library…right?

WRONG.

It wouldn’t be fair to say that everyone says, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” because honestly, they don’t. A lot of people, especially in high school, skip breakfast in the morning in favor of coffee, waiting until lunch to eat, or getting an extra half hour of sleep. In fact, only 44% of Americans eat breakfast every day, with this percentage increasing with age, meaning high school is one of the most common times in a person’s life for them to skip the first meal of the day. Breakfast is simply not a priority in our culture, especially with coffee being such a common substitution for entire meals--and it happens.

There were multiple factors that contributed to the heightened viewership in this tournament, but one key factor was Caitlin Clark, who plays for the University of Iowa. Clark was the National Player of the Year. And Clark did not disappoint once the tournament began. She shattered records on the court while drawing in viewers to watch her play, who helped to break viewership records for the tournament.

Everybody knows and loves NHS’ police dog, Officer Rocket. But just where did Rocket come from? The answer is GOFIDOG. GOFIDOG (Golden Opportunities For Independence) is an organization located in Walpole, Massachusetts, that raises dogs and trains them to be service dogs and police dogs.

From March 31st to April 2nd, the Massachusetts Instrumental Choral & Conductors Association hosted the MICCA Concert Festival. This event, which “encourages the improvement of an ensemble's musical standards by providing musical adjudication by highly qualified adjudicators,” is the pinnacle of the work that the NHS music program dedicates all year to. The performance has been described as rewarding, community-building, and educational by many involved.

When it rains, a gloomy day can turn into an opportunity for exploration and positivity for children with their guardians who can travel throughout a designated route in Needham (with a map that is attatched below) to find invisible designs at each location. Though it would be best if followed when it is raining, the scavenger hunt of hidden designs can also be found when it is not raining if water is poured or sprayed on top of the design due to the use of a brand of hydrophobic paint known as Rainworks paint.
