Differentiating Instruction for Inclusive Classrooms is a 4-unit graduate-level course at Dominican University of California designed for teacher credential candidates. It focuses on developing skills to teach diverse K-12 learners—particularly English Learners and students with disabilities, through tailored assessment, instructional strategies, and field experience.
In this presentation, we were given a choice among the four key aspects of differentiation based on Tomlinson’s model. I chose to focus on product, which is what students create at the end of a lesson to demonstrate their understanding of the content. I selected this because it shows whether my teaching is clear and meaningful to students.
This Universal Design for Learning project was one of the more challenging presentations due to our different schedules and availability. In this project, we selected a focus student, developed IEP goals, and planned how to support the student’s needs using UDL principles. Despite our scheduling differences, we were able to complete and submit the project on time
As part of building an inclusive classroom, I created this video to further my own learning. Because downloading it required a subscription, I used my iPhone to record it instead.
