Overview
For next week's seminar, the topic will be 'Engineering As a Profession'. The speaker is Ir. Dr Siti Hawa Hamzah is the director of EAD and ETAD for Boards Of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Click on the link in our bio to listen to the talk or you can copy the link below.
Firstly, the speaker started his speech by introducing his journey in further his study in the engineering field. His journey started at TIJB, MCE in 1978 and ended with getting PhD in Civil and structural engineering in 2005. She also reminded me that after all the students have graduated from the university, they should register their names under the board of engineers Malaysia, LJM. It doesn’t mean that engineers with Ir are not qualified to be called engineers, however, in the professional journey, there must be a passion to attain the highest qualification that we reached. Hence, as first year students, they should chart their pathway properly
Highlight
Then proceed with the big why the student's further studies in the engineering field. The speaker gives some advice depending on the choice that the students made. The students should be honest with themselves about their passion and ambition towards this field as they will go through this journey in engineering fields whether pleasant or not.
Next, followed with an explanation about the IEM which is known as the institute of engineers Malaysia was established in 1959 and also BEM is the statutory body constituted under the registration of Engineers Act 196. She also advises about the great ways and ideas for an engineering student to create their pathway to further in professional journey. This could help new engineering students to have a realistic view and perspective about their future for the next few years. Systematic planning and fixed goals are also compulsory to help the stay motivated and keep on track as there are many challenges that they would face.
Conclusion
Last but not least, this sharing was very helpful for a new engineering student like me to set up my ambition and get approval by PAPC.
