House plants are an excellent way to bring greenery inside all year long and clean the air of environmental toxins. In addition, studies have shown that plants help improve concentration, productivity and mood as well as aiding in reducing stress. Amazing!
Plants can be given as presents, which can be especially appealing if it is presented in a clever and an attractive way.
You are required to design a holder for a succulent plant, and then manufacture it from some natural materials.
To help you to solve the Design Brief, you will need to design a waterproof pot to hold the succulent. You can design and make your own by the use of 3D printing or by vacuum forming plastic. You will learn more about these processes.
The Design Brief states that you must use some natural materials. This will be different types of timber, however, you will not be using the timber in a ‘flat strip’ form (2D) as it will be formed into a 3D shape using a process called laminating and forming.
Restrictions are set so that solving the design problem is made easier for you.
You must consider the restrictions set out below:
The timber that you must use is a Hardwood
You must use veneer in layers to form a decorative design
You must design and make your own 3D printed or vacuum formed pot
Your flower holder should have no sharp edges
Your design solution must be a 3D form (not just a 2D shape)
You must use a suitable finish to enhance the natural qualities of the veneer – wax / varnish / oil etc.
Lesson words to remember
Grain: The lines that you see on wood.
Durable: Good quality and can last long.
I experienced DT lessons.
I expect to know more materials.

This tree is the type of tree which looses their leaves in winter.
This tree doesn't lose leaves and lets seeds fall to the ground as the seeds are with no covering at all.

Veneer is a very thin sheet of wood that we're going to use it for making our flower pots. We are going to put lots of layers to make the design.
Hard wood is a hard wood and we are going to use this for the base of our flowerpot.
This is the new one I made. I made these new ones because I didn't like my other ideas. I liked the cat on the moon and the box animal and that was why I put the same thing here too.
These are my favorite designs (including the one on the right). I am still deciding which one to do.
I would have gone for the box animal but this catched my attention more and was easier to make.
I like this design too but this seemed to copyright. The image below shows what I got 'inspired' from.
This is a cat called 'Beluga', my favorite youtuber. He has a youtube channel and is very funny.
Here I'm drawing my cat on moon design.
I used ghost lines to start of so I held the pencil near the edge.
I'm cutting my drawing we need 3 of them.
I have three now!
I am cutting the inside of my models.
I'm doing my second one.
I have done all three!
I failed so I decided to do my other design.
COLOR!
I have colored all my designs.
I am gluing my things.
I forgot to take pictures, I have rendered my front view and finelined my pencil drawing.
I have colored my work, I forgot my othere titles.
I have gave my drawings a little morr color and added my titles.
I feel like I should have rendered more, I think you can see the white spaces.
I kinda regret using that reddish kind of brown for the middle layer. That's the color of the eyes. It looks like BLOOD😫
The titles aren't very nicely spaced! It can be hard which title seperates which part.
The mouth is very small and sus🤓
I have got my layers colored and now I need to do the sketch.
These are the things that come out when you press extrude. The depth you can control with the mouse and the keyboard (by putting how many mm). You also need to choose the 'face and sketch regions to extrude' and you need to select the face.
I have finished my sketch and this is my first extrude.
This is my second extrude.
Third extrude. This is my finished work.
This is the picture to print. I think it's the VENEER 1.

BASE
I think I was reflective because I meant ots of mistake and I needed to fix them. I also reflect on my work and I think reflecting will help my work next time I do it. I think it's really good to be reflective.
I really think that I'm a thinker because I really had issues choosing my design. I also found the base boring and I had to change it from my final design. Overall, I think I thought a lot when doing this project and I think I will think more.
I defintley think I'm resilient because when I thought that my base was boring, I wanted to change it but instead of keeping like that boring square, I decided to change it. It turned out in the end, that extra work made my design look better.
Here I got the wood and my base design.
I finished cutting but it's very lumpy.
This is a file to make the abse smoother. I'm also using sand paper.
This is the proccess of me sanding.
I'm using the sanding machine for the sides of my base.
This is the side of my base.
This is my front veneer from my design.
The back is the same except it doesn't have the face.
We need to glue them together so they stick.
I'm gluing the middle and the bottom veneer.
Now this is the middle and the front.
Gluing the places that don't hold together.
This is after the glue was dry. I didn't take picture for the mold or the proccess of compressing because I wasn't in the lesson.
After, I sanded the base so now it's smooth!
