Choi Wook Kyung
I used a brush from the category 'artistic' to give it texture and I made layers of differnet colors to give the messy look.
Fate, 22 x 28 cm, ink on paper, 1966
Many ways to interpret
The word 'fate'
Looks like a scrapbook
Has random stuff together (letters, symbols, stairs, faces etc.)
Signature
Brush strokes, splatters of ink
Looks messy
Some places looking 'not finished'
Black pen lines to add detail or texture
The color palette consists of overall 3 colors. Brown, cream or black. I think these colors are analogous to each other and the overall painting is more closer to a warm tone than a cool tone. It looks like the cream color is the color of the canvas or the backdrop color, the brown is kind of both a background and foreground and is a filler color (depends). The black parts are in the foreground and it outlines the shapes/objects. Some shapes are realistic and some are not. For example, there is a staircase or a blanketbut there are also some triangle like shapes filled with only black that I think represents holes/shadows in the painting. The shapes looks like it's been sketched because there isn't one outline but they are overlapped to eachother.
This painting is abstract because the objects may be realistic but they are very random so there are many many ways to understand and interpret it. It exists as an idea or imagination but it isn't literal concrete existion.
I think the story is about war because of the color kind of reminds me of it (as in the old camera) and the random stuff is like you are running away with it and the word 'fate' is like this war was destined.
This was my first design.
I really like this design because the colors match well and it gives off a very cool vibe. I also added shadows and highlights for all designs and I think this matches nicely.
