Onshape modeling

The purpose of modelling in Onshape is so that it can help me visualise my layers and the construction of the mosquito coil holder, and I will use it to help generate a 3D line drawing to export to Procreate to use as my final presentation rendering. This is a really important skill in the project and it really helps learning to sketch in 3D.

Below this are all the tools available in Onshape, I didnt use all of these tools I only use the ones I need.

Original Onshape Template

This is what the original onshape template looks like.It has 3 basic layers and a green coil in the middle ,it's currently in front viewing mode but you can view it from different perspectives.The base is coloured in brown but we can change the colours later on.

Step 1

Firstly I select the front layer to draw on then I started drawing using the curve tool below, Using the curve tool was very helpful because everything curved up automatically without me having to force it. I drew half of it then used the mirror tool to mirror it to the other side.So I end up with a symetrical design in the end.This is the picture from my onshape it shows half of my design drawn and about to be mirrored.

To mirror one side of the design to get a overall symetrical shape.

Step 2

After mirroring my design I am left with one single finished design.When Im done touching it up and fixing the tiny mistakes I moved the front design to the back then split it with the split tool then extruded it with the extrude tool.To be honest I should've done it all the way through which would've left me with 3 extruded shapes but I only did two because I forgot. But later on I will eventually have to come back and extrude 3 shapes.

Step 3

Then I made a semi circle for the middle layer, I need to do this so that there is a hole for my coil to go through.After that I extruded it and finished the circle off.Then I had to double check and make sue the coil fits through the hole.

These are the two colours I chose.

I chose this colour for the flower because I feel like it will look nice as resin.

I chose this colour for the lily pad because I wanted it to be kind of like a wood texture instead of the usual basic lily pad.

Step 4 (my last step)

For this I had to create another drawing and insert versions of my coil holder inside. The first one is the front view and the size is 1.1. The second one is also the front view but the size is 1.2. The last one is the side view and the size is 1.2.

Shapr 3D

After my final step I was done with onshape and was ready for manufacture, to help me visualize what my coil holder will look like I used Shapr 3D, then pressed AR and it basically shows me what my coil holder will hopefully look like at the end of the manufacture.

with Shapr 3D you can also change the color of the wood and basically anything, so I played with it a bit and came up with two designs.The first is translucent resin which will show the coil inside. The second is like a blue translucent resin which will also show the coil.
