I have based this project on a mythical creature which is the Phoenix, I feel like it's a very beautiful bird and I like the redish tone the bird has I feel like it will look amazing if I somehow it's colors and it's beauty onto the garden sprayer. The sprayer also have this curvy nozzle which also reminds me of a pheonix since it's beak curves out like the sprayer away from it's body. I did about like 6 sprayers then left the rest out so you can see the outline of the shape I was given before I started the rendering and the fineling. I first thought of basing my project on a pheonix because before the lesson I was watching harry potter and I found dumbledor's pheonix quite cool and funny, so I guess that never left my mind when I entered the lesson.. It is what it is and overall I am very very happy with the project, I think I did very well with the time I was given and everything turned out like how I planned it to be.
This was the first phoenix I took into consideration because I like the bright red tones on the bottom of it's wings but it obviously didnt make the cut because it wasnt bright enough and overall it was quite dull.
This was my second choice because it was the actual phoenix from harry potter (which is my main inspiration from the first place) but I could only see it's head in the picture, also because of the tone of the harry potter movies the color of the phoenix was still too dull.
This was my third choice I actually loved this one because of how bright the yellow is, it reminded me of the sun which is also nice. The only reason why I didn't use this one was because there was too much of that yellow and not alot of the other colours, so it wasnt versatile.
This one was the one I actually went for, it ticked all my checklist and it had many colours on it which was great. I love this pheonix it's perfect I dont know what else to say it really is perfect, I was very happy when I found this photo. It had all orangey tones all the correct yellow tones in all the right places. I also really like it's red tones, some are dark and some are light. So basically I took the colours I used from this exact phoenix by pressing down onto the phoenix on pro create. I did not use any other colours from the colour wheel I used ALL my colours from this phoenix.
I like this one because it shows the back of the spray nozzle and the body of it from like a side view.
This one shows the back back of it which would be helpful if I was actually talking to a real client.
This one shows the whole shape from the side it would be very interesting if I maybe added like abit of writing or a logo.
Same with this one it would be a good place to showcase the company's logo if I did have a company that designed weird spray nozzles haha.
This one is a bit more zoomed in which is good it really shows the details of your work and the techniques you use to render it.
This one is very very zoomed in, it's the front view of the spray nozzle, it shows the details of the tiny holes that spray out water.
This one is the head turned upside down, i Think it would be good if you were just designing the nozzle and not the body.
This one is like the first one of this collumn but just flipped, I actually screenshothoted it and flipped it myself to show both sides of it.
This one shows the front from like a side perspective
Same with this but just more of the side view than the front
I added everything onto the procreate page which is 420x297mm which is quite big not gonna lie. It took me a while to work out the placement of it but I ended it with this and Im very happy with it. I like how the side view is the main one because it shows the details since I zoomed it in too. The other ones are just like an extra if you want to check out more about the design. I dont think I'll have time to colour it all so my aim is to just do more than half of it which is more than five because I added ten in here.
Masking is a technique to help you render easier, I do this with all my shapes individually. It helps you render without worrying about your tool, well in this case marker going onto the background. Masking makes my life a whole lot easier and It's incredibly helpful.
You choose he shape you want to mask and go on that layer, keep in mind I am only masking one by one, I dont mask them all and render them all.
2. Then on that same layer I press on this "s" or number "5" looking icon on the top left right in between the mouse click one and the magic wand one, After that the list of things you are allowed to do will show up on the bottom make sure you press automatic.
3. Then you select the shape and make sure the whole thing is black, if not it can really affect you when you render. To chnage the threshold you just press on the shape and slide it left and right, until you have compeletly covered the shape.
4. Then all you have to do is just create a new layer and put it on top of the one you've masked. After that you can start rendering, to make sure it is successfully masked there will be thin diagonal lines on the background, when you're done rendering to take it off you just press the same icon.
This is one of my spray nozzles I did, I've decided to record ny process of rendering with shadows and highlights then without. Since I believe by adding shadows and highlights, this makes a huge difference.
As you can see this is the nozzle that is rendered with shadows and highlights. This makes the shape more 3D and realistic and it also makes the shape stand out which is really good. IN other words it makes the shape pop.
To spice things up abit and to make my project more interesting and versatile I've decided to try masking a picture with the spray nozzle. I've decided to use a picture of flames because it's like a phoenx but if I were to use a phoenix that would be a bit boring and predictable.
This is what it looks like with the rendering and shadows. To mask the picture onto the design you just do the masking, (check my steps). But instead you invert it too. I really like this technique I think it's cool. Well actually cools abit vague, I think it's very modern.
The first lesson was learning the technique and what kind of project we were doing and what we were designing. So I didnt have much time to really work on my project. I only chose the phoenix I was doing this lesson and did the first spray nozzle.
By the second lesson I finished my first spray nozzle and 2 more. I did so much this lesson I was very proud of myself, I also took the time to find a picture to do the masking technique and rendered everything beautifully.
Third lesson I didnt do as much as I wanted to, I was hoping to finish most of it by today. But I didnt. I mean yea there was still some progress I guess, I did the zoomed in spray head, I actually found that one quite hard to render since Im not familiar with round shapes, but yea I tried my best and I will definitely practice rendering round shapes.
BY lesson 4 I was nearly done I had one more part to do which was the bottom part of thie one spray. I also did abit of cleaning up, I added more shadows and highlights. Overall it was a good lesson I got a lot done.
Tada, Im done. By lesson five I was pretty much done eveyrthing was how I expected it to turn out, I love everything I will explain further in my final photo.ButI decided to add this colour scheme thing on the right bottom because I feel like it shows more authenticity and my process really, I dont know how to explain it it just seems more real.
This is my favorite because I just love the colour scheme of it, it also fits well with the theme it really does remind me of a phoenix and flames. I think I also like this one because my rendering skills were honestly on point, I think I did very very well and I'm very happy with the shadows and highlights. The highlights were quite hard but I did it and that's what matters, Im very proud of myself. I think I also like this one the most because of the shape, I really like the side profile from a forward view point perspective. I think it looks cool and with the phoenix background behind it it's just wow. Im just very happy.
This project obviously took me along time to accomplished but it was all worth it because I am very happy with how my piece turned out. I've worked incredibly hard these past few lessons to create this work and I also did quite alot of researching and troubling myslef with finding the perfect picture. Whether it was the phoenix or the spray nozzle. I really like DT I think I really get to use my imagination in these type of lessons and overall I enjoyed this assessment piece and Im very proud of myself, whether it was the site or the actual work or both.
