Model United Nations
I was awarded "most improved student" on my committee which was very affirming. On completion of the weekend, I began to understand the hard work and processes the real United Nations would go through.
Joining the United Nations or any government force is arguably, the most effective and definitive way to make change. Growing up I always believed that you must be part of the change, and understand what it is you are trying to change in order to make a real shift.
Model United Nations (MUN) conferences gather students from around the globe to reenact United Nations procedure and debate real issues our world is facing today. As a delegate, you represent your individual country, but MUN is about so much more. It teaches you to build relationships, work together, and support one another. As a delegate, MUN has given me the tools to be a true green leader. I was representing Kazakhstan. The research for weeks before was the most interesting to me. Finding out what there was to a nations views on population growth, laws and their culture. It inspired me to look at many different perspectives.
After endless amounts of research it was important to learn how to sift through information and what was truthful and helpful and what wasn't.
A huge part of our days together were focused on debating, speeches and note passing. These were all different forms of communication that we used as a means to understanding each at the conference.
When put into our different committees, the main focus of the conference was to figure out solutions that many stakeholders could agree upon to major world issues.
