As soon as you receive your itinerary, email it to school secretary. When school starts, there is also a peninsula wide drill going on. The on base hotel and the off base hotels are often taxed to the max.
Following hotels are off base hotels that you will likely be staying if the Camp Walker Lodging is not available.
Novotel (downtown)- pricey and fancy but in a great location nearby many restaurants and things to do. Easy subway access to the red line, which you can take to school.
Hotel Laonzena (in Suseong-gu)- by the monorail, which you can also take to school. Not as many restaurants nearby, but within easy walking distance of the Children’s Hall, which is a free park/science museum.
Hotel the Grand (in Beomeo-dong)- by the green subway line. Close to restaurants.
Prince Hotel (near Camp Walker)- you could walk to school from here but this is not as nice of a hotel.
Some people have even used Airbnb to get an apartment/hotel room while they are waiting to move into their real apartment.
Although some had a much shorter hotel stay, eight or nine weeks is about average. It just takes time to get everything processed. So you can expect that you will be living out of a hotel for a while. Keep that in mind when you pack- it will be hot and muggy when you first arrive, but will start to cool off. It might be helpful to bring a few cooler-weather items with you at first.
The school secretary will arrange your temporary lodging facility(TLF) for you and your family. While you wait for housing, you will be responsible for paying for your TLF fees. You can pay on a weekly or biweekly basis and credit cards are accepted. Keep all your receipts and submit them regularly through DoDEA Allowance Processing System DAPS for full reimbursement (TQSA). TQSA is authorized for 90 days of TLF, while you look for a housing.
Your Household Goods (HHG) and unaccompanied baggage (express) will not be available while you are staying in TLF. You will only have what you bring with you or mail ahead of time.
