When The Muse attended the Florida Scholastic Press Association's 2023 convention, coverage staffer Ellie Symons and I entered one of the on-the-spot contests. We produced a podcast that aligned with our assigned prompt, which was "Create a seven to eight-minute podcast focused specifically on eighth and/or 12th graders and their hopes/dreams/fears heading into their final weeks of middle and/or high school and beyond."
I don’t create content on The Muse often, so this was a great opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and collaborate with another hardworking staffer. Our episode won second place.
At the Princeton Summer Journalism Program, I attended a podcast workshop led by freelance journalist Malcolm Burnley where he taught us more about production and audience engagement, among other podcasting skills. My friend Emilia and I collaborated on a trailer for "Grammar Gals," which we have started actually publishing episodes for. I've used what I learned from that workshop to adjust my methods for my individual podcast, The Public Private Story, and I'm working on a podcast episode for The Muse about leaders of color on campus.
