Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A. What are some of the main points you read about in the website above regarding manipulating images?

Some of the main points I read about photo manipulation was that it's very common and almost every photo you see on media/internet is most likely a manipulated photo and not the original. Editing, Cropping, and just changing the photo so that there's a difference with the original one to the new one, all go under manipulating photos. Photoshopping a photo is kind of like forbidden in the photography world because it doesn't tell the "truth" of what that photo telling if it's been changed.

B. What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times regarding image manipulation?

The philosophy of many newspapers like the Washington Post and New York Times, use photo manipulation. These newspapers change the appearance of the cover of their newspapers to make it where people would actually want to look at it and take a moment to appericate how appealing the cover looks. As time goes one, it gets more difficult to find out of the covers are the original or if it's been changed in any way, people won't know if it's the "truth" or if that cover is really telling a story or not.

C. What do you think are acceptable things you could do to an image and not cross the line unto an unethical manipulation?

I personally think that changing the lighting of a photo or cropping a photo is acceptable and doesn't cross the line. To me, you would have to change the appearance of someone in the photo to make it unethical and if there is not a person in the photo then I think changing it to whatever you want is acceptable.

D. Post a screenshot of the photo manipulation (this means get that image by either downloading it OR taking a screenshot and post it on your site) that you think was the most unethical, and explain why you think it was unethical. If you do not know what the word ethic or unethical means, look them up on the internet. It is very important you know what those two words mean. Please write at least 2-3 sentences explaining why you think it is so bad. You will most likely have to take a screen shot to get this image. Command-shift-4 gets you the cursor you need to take a screen shot. Make sure that screen shot ends up in your Google Drive.

E. Post a screenshot of the the photo manipulation that you consider the least unethical, and explain why you think it is not as bad as others. Please write at least 2-3 sentences explaining why you think this one is not so bad.

D) I think this is the most unethical one. This is a photo of a war happening but because it's been photoshopped, it's not telling the truth to others of what is actually happening. When it comes to topics like this, it is important to not edit any of the photos because people deserve to know the truth of what is actually happening. It is giving false imformation of what's happening.

E) I think this one is the least unethical photo. A lot of people know that the Kardashian family isn't always truthful when it comes to media. They made changes to their body and wear a lot of makeup to hide things. Seeing this photo edited probably doesn't surprise a lot of people. Yes they changed the appearance of their body but that was done to them anyway.
