Magazines Part 2
Cover Types:
Image based: Image based cover types are when there is one main image and its noticeable. It's simple and neat and clean to look at like the cover is just based of that one main image. When i hear image based, i would think of just one person in the center of the cover and the masthead and supporting cover lines to go around the person. The person would mostly likely be in the center and looking straight at the camera and smiling or just with a straight look on their face.
Illustration Based: Illustration based cover types are when there is an illustration as the cover. The illustration would be whatever the title of the magazine is about. It would be drawings, patterns, and colors anything with illustration involved. The illustration would be special. The illustration would catch the viewer and would make them want to keep looking through the magazine and not put it down
Type Based: Type based covers are when it more text designs on it. The typing on the cover of a magazine would be more creative and like fun to look at then all the other different types of magazine covers. Type based covers would have more words in different fonts but that still match and would have more color that stand out, like bright colors. The typing of the cover and words would be the main image and focus rather then a person or illustration. It would be really eye catching and instead of pictures and images, they would expect the words to catch the same appeal as photos.
Concept Based: Concept based covers are when the designs of a magazine cover specify on a specific idea or theme of that magazine cover. You can use colors, pictures, and or words that relate to that main idea or theme of the cover. When you look at a concept based cover, you can pretty much guess what the rest of the magazine will probably be about. The concept based cover is just a little starter and as you read, you get deeper into it.
