Entry Criteria: Grade 6 in GCSE Religious Studies. Grade 6 in GCSE Religious Studies or Grade 7 in History or English Language or Literature if you have not studied GCSE Religious Studies. All students must also have achieved a minimum of a GCSE Grade 5 in English Language OR English Literature.
What will I study: Philosophy concerns itself with a study of thought and ideas about reality, the existence of God and what it means to be human. Ethics is a study of how we arrive at decisions about right and wrong, and then applying this to various issues. New Testament Studies analyses the influences and factors that shape the message and interpretation of the New Testament.
A Level Units Three papers:
Philosophy of Religion (e.g. Problem of Evil, Arguments for God, Atheism, Religious Experience)
Religious Ethics: (Ethical Theories, Medical Ethics, Environment and Equality, War and Peace)
New Testament Studies: (e.g. History and Context of New Testament, How to Read Scripture, Scientific Challenges.)
Final Qualification: A Level
Progression Pathways: This subject teaches students how to think logically and to argue a point through to a rational conclusion. It teaches skills of essay writing, and summarising arguments and principles which are valuable to all careers and further study. This course examines what it means to be human.
