Physical education is a multidisciplinary subject that allows students to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through rigorous academic means and practical performances. IGCSE Physical Education specification has a broad and topical coverage, which keeps pupils motivated and engaged. It is designed to give pupils an understanding of how to adopt a healthy habits and active lifestyle and to foster enjoyment through physical activity.
The theory makes up 50% of the course. The practical (4 sports) makes up the other 50%.

Sports psychology
iGCSE PE students need to be open-minded, passionate about sport and human performance and be willing to commit to a significant amount of physical activity on a weekly basis through lessons and extra curricular training.
The requirements for students taking iGCSE PE is:
Play for a team outside of school
Play for one A team inside of school
It is particularly advantageous if student swim, ski or do horse riding outside of school.
The PE course is designed to be challenging no matter your current sporting ability, we will provide you with the opportunity to learn through real and practical means. Whether it is developing understanding of biomechanics and muscle contractions in the strength and conditioning room, debating the ethics of drugs use in sport or planning a global event of your own design.
Your practical performances are assessed according to three objectives:
AO1 - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin performance in physical activity / sport.
AO2 - Apply knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles to a variety of physical activities / sports, including the analysis and evaluation of performance.
AO3 - Demonstrate the ability to select and perform appropriate skills to produce effective performance in practical activities.
The course is assessed according to the following aims, which enable candidates to:
Develop their knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning physical performance in a modern world;
Use and apply this knowledge and understanding to improve their performance;
Perform in a range of physical activities, developing skills and techniques, and selecting and using tactic, strategies and / or compositional ideas;
Understand and appreciate safe practice in physical activity and sport;
Understand and appreciate the benefit of physical activity and sport for health, fitness and well-being;
Gain a sound basis for further study in the field of Physical Education.
Students thinking about taking IGCSE PE should show good to outstanding and consistent performances within three sports already in Year 9.
The practical activities that can be considered for examination are as follows:
Grades will be submitted from 4 activities from at least 2 categories
For each sport you will be awarded a score out of 25.
Your four highest scores will be submitted as predicted grades at the end of the course. In addition we will gather a range of video evidence that supports the grades. This will include drills, conditioned games, games, demonstrations and explanations of the activities
The majority of this evidence is gathered in Year 11 to give students the most time to develop their levels of performance.
An example of a subjective criteria can be seen with association football.
The practical performances are assessed according to levels from 1-6.
Level 6 represents the highest grades and is equivalent to national / international level standards.
Upper Level 5 represents the standard require to achieve an 8 grade.
Upper Level 3 represents the standard required to achieve a 4 grade.
The Sport Science industry has been rapidly expanding over the last 20 years. Careers that pupils may wish to pursue from taking this course include sports psychology, sports physiotherapy, sports medicine, sports media, sport event organisation, sports law, research specialist in exercise physiology as well as physical education teaching, coaching, personal training and more.
