Mathematics

There are two tiers of entry:

Higher Tier covering grades 9 - 4

Foundation Tier covering grades 5 - 1.

There are currently five sets in Year 10 with students being placed according to their individual needs. The IGCSE course has already been started in Year 9.

Our aim is to help students achieve their full potential in the subject. Furthermore, we hope that by working co-operatively, independently, practically and through investigation students will

• acquire a firm foundation for further study and develop a positive attitude towards the subject.

• learn to think and communicate mathematically - with precision, logic and creativity.

• develop an appreciation of the place and use of mathematics in society and apply the concepts to situations arising in their own lives.

• finally, enjoy doing mathematics!

To help reinforce these ideas we encourage students to participate in the Maths Challenges organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust and the Canguru competition run by Coimbra University.

Two calculator papers each two hours long.
