This guide contains all of the information you need to make the most of your opportunity to choose the programme you will study at St Julian's over the next two years. The last page contains a list of people you may want to talk to if you have any doubts about the process of choosing your options. If you are not sure about a particular subject then you must ask the advice of the teaching staff responsible for the subject.
The General Information section gives you an overview of the curriculum and the options process. It includes advice to help you choose subjects sensibly, but it is not exhaustive, and you may wish to look up further information in the Careers Library.
The main part of the booklet introduces you to the core subjects and the options. You should know that some of the option subjects may not be available if numbers are very low and that, depending upon the choices that Year 9 make as a group, subjects will be placed in an option menu (i.e. timetabled together) so there may be some conflict between what you want to do and what is available. Do remember that we are trying hard not to limit your choices but some clashes may be inevitable.
Remember to make your choices based on what is right for YOU, not what your friends have selected. Discuss your options carefully with your parents, your form tutor and any of the staff listed in the "Over to You" part on the last page.
The options form will be shared with you on the 18th of January and the date for submission of option choices is January 26th. School will be building a timetable for the coming year based on option choices. It is absolutely important that decisions are based on sound principles. Once the options process is complete we expect all students to remain committed to the full two year (I)GCSE courses that they have chosen.
This is your opportunity to start to shape your future and the first step is to read this booklet carefully.
